National and international recognition for the peace efforts of the women of Liberia are a precious thing. Too often the peacemakers are not in the media spotlight the way the violent troublemakers are. The
Nobel Peace Prize 2011 was awarded jointly to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman
"for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work".
Finally, the Nobel Peace Prize Lectures will be held on Saturday 10 December as part of the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony at the Oslo City Hall, Norway. The Ceremony starts at 1.00 p.m. (CET).
